Ishrat Encounter Case: CBI Court discharges three 3 cops:

Three alleged police officers, G.L. Singhal, TarunBarot and Anaju Chaudhary, in the IshratJahan fake encounter case of 2004 were discharged by a special CBI court in Ahmedabad.[i]


Delhi HC asks police to submit report on Plea against Facebook:

The Delhi High Court has ordered the police to give a status report on a petition seeking criminal charges against Facebook and its senior executives for suspected criminal activities and “digital conspiracy.”[ii]


Kerala HC asks ECI to take measures to prevent Double Voting:

The Kerala High Court’s Division Bench asked the Election Commission and all election officers to take all appropriate measures to avoid double voting and impersonated voting.

The Bench, which included Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chali, have also directed the EC and Chief Electoral Officer to release a public notice warning voters that anyone who try to cast several votes would face serious consequences.[iii]


HC allows investigation against Yediyurappa:

The Karnataka high court has allowed investigation on a criminal complaint filed against chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa, alleging that he attempted to entice Janata Dal (Secular) MLA NaganagoudaKandkur to join the BJP by promising him money and a ministerial berth.[iv]


Plea filed in SC against UCC on divorce and alimony:

In the interest of having a “uniform law” for all religions, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to avoid a “blatant attempt” to strip away Muslim women’s constitutional right to exercise their religion.[v]




Ex-PM of Nepal to launch a new political party:

Nepal will shortly have a new national political party that is ideologically Marxist-Leninist. Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, who rebelled against Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli in the now-defunct Nepal Communist Party, will lead the new party.[vi]


Biden nominates Indian-American woman as Judge of DC District Court:

RupaRangaPuttagunta, an Indian-American, has been nominated for a federal judgeship by US President Joe Biden. She was named among ten other candidates for top judicial positions.[vii]


New York HC judge and LGBTQ Trailblazer died:

Paul Feinman, the first openly gay judge to serve on the New York High Court and a lifelong supporter of LGBTQ rights, has died.[viii]
