Plea in Delhi HC seeks regulation of Non-Film Songs:

A petition has been filed by the Delhi High Court for creating a regulatory authority to filter or review non-film songs, their lyrics, and videos that are made accessible to the general public via different media outlets such as YouTube and others. The petition seeks the direction on Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for regulation.[i]

EC issues notice to Mamata for violating model code:

The Election Commission has issued a notice to West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her appeal to minority voters not to share their votes violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The EC asked a response from the Chief Minister within 48 hours, failing which it would make a decision without further consultation with her.[ii]

Delhi HC issues notice on Plea for compulsory masking:

In the ongoing Assembly elections in different States and Union Territories, the Delhi High Court provided notice to the Centre and the Election Commission on a petition seeking action against politicians, activists, and candidates who are not wearing face masks.[iii]

The Bombay HC issues guidelines for the POCSO Act:

The Bombay High Court released guidance to ensure that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) is effectively implemented and that a child victim’s right to engage in the judicial process is secured.[iv]

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

FTC requests US Court not to grant Facebook dismissal:

The Federal Trade Commission and a large number of states have requested a federal court to reject Facebook Inc’s motion to drop significant antitrust cases brought against it in December.[v]

 

China sentences 2 former Xinjiang officials to death over separatism charge:

On accusations of separatism and bride-taking, China has sentenced a former education official and a former judicial official in the northwestern province of Xinjiang to death with a two-year reprieve.[vi]
